A Book That Shaped Me Contest

 

Entry forms and guidelines are now available for the Library of Congress "A Book That Shaped Me" essay contest!

Southern Area Library is again participating in the Library of Congress summer essay contest for rising 5th and 6th grade students.  The students will write an eassy on a book that has made a personal impact on their lives.

Last year, Southern Area Library has two state finalists out of the five chosen across WV.  The library is so proud of last year's winners, and it would be wonderful to see area students once again take this opportunity to shine. 

Essays should only be on page in length and must be submitted to the library by July 10 along with an entry form.  For more information, please check out the related website on the contest:

The Library with the Big Heart!

Our library has over 12,000 books on our shelves with new purchases every month. Videos and DVDs may also be rented for the same two week period as printed materials.  Our patrons have access to ebooks and other online materials through WV Deli.  Patrons also have access to magazines through Zinio. 

Southern Area Library has nine patron computers. The entire building is wi-fi accessible. There is also a fax machine, a printer, and a copier for patron use.

We offer a private reading room with wi-fi access as well as an upstairs computer and printer for studying or working in a quiet space.  We also have a genealogy room upstairs with local memorabilia and local historical writings and information. 

Numerous programs are offered throughout the year including a monthly genealogy meeting, a monthly book discussion group, children's programming, and more.  Click here to access our calendar
